Sunrise Children Home

Established to care and support the most needy and desperate orphaned, abandoned and other vulnerable children. This project was officially launched and dedicated to the Glory of God on 22nd December 2003.The home admitted the first 6 children in January 2004. It was further officially registered in March 2007 by the Department of Children’s Services in the government of Kenya as a charitable children institution to deal with children issues under certificate number CDEN 000031.

 

The Home Since inception, the Home has admitted more than 300 children from ages of one (1) week to 16 years. The Home is also a Rescue Centre for children abused and in difficult circumstances like those who run away from social evils such as forced or early marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM) or child abuse by relatives. The foundation has also rescued the children orphaned by the post-election violence during the disputed general election in 2007/2008. Currently we are caring for 42 children in the home.

We are located within the Kabarnet town, about 256 kilometers North –West of Nairobi. We are situated near the Agricultural Show ground on the airstrip road and overlooking the beautiful Kerio Valley escarpment.We are also forty Kilometers from the popular Bogoria hot springs and Flamingos. Lake Baringo famous for Birds and Equatorial reptiles is also Sixty Kilometers from the home.

Our facilities stand on about 2 acres piece of land and on it are three permanent buildings, currently used as office, hostels and a chapel. We also have a semi-permanent structure used as a pre-school unit, kitchen and dining. The home has 35 goats and sheep.
